Bari-Uma Ramen (Serendra BGC): Hiroshima Japan's Strongest Tonkotsu-Shoyu Ramen
Serendra, Serendra 2 Loading Bay, McKinley Pkwy, Taguig, 1634 Metro Manila, Philippines
There's a distinct comfort from savoring a piping hot and flavorful ramen on a drizzly day. Fortunately, Bari-Uma Serendra Bonifacio Global City branch had available seats to grant us such comfort.
Bari Uma is a ramen brand that was established in Hiroshima, Japan in 2003. It now has several shops outside Japan (Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Scotland) and has even been earned a top 25 food exellence award in Singapore .
Food
Japanese Pan-Fried Dumpling
While waiting for our ramen orders, we enjoyed this Gyoza. As you can see the they use delicately thin dumpling wrappers to make it so crispy. Yet, it is still effective in locking in the juicy meat.
Deep Fried Chicken
♥ Karaage (360 php/8 pcs)
We also ordered the Karaage which is also a must try! The skin is very crunchy, the meat is so tender and juicy. It is evenly marinated with garlic, shoyu, vinegar and black pepper.
Ramen
♥ Ajitama-Uma (380 php)
The Ajitama-Uma is labelled as the signature dish. Based on observation from the picture on the menu, the difference between the Bariuma and this is that this has flavored egg in addition to the pork-flavored shoyu soup and thick-cut chashu and flavored egg.
It goes well with the strongest tonkotsu-shoyu ramen broth made from high-quality soy sauce and pure umami extract - said to be made from simmering pork and chicken bones 8 hours and other ingredients such as chicken feet, vegetables and more.
If you like it garlicky, you can try the Ninniku-Uma. They also use
carefully select garlic.
There's also the Shoyu-Uma for those who prefer to have a stronger shoyu flavor.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Go for Bari-Uma Ramen for high-quality authentic Hiroshima-style tonkotsu-shoyu ramen. The price-point is also unbelievably affordable for the generous portion and food quality.

Bonifacio Global City is one of the most progressive places in the Metro. Malls continue to be bigger and better. Market! Market! has recently opened its new C5 Wing where Mr. Korea BBQ established its pioneer branch.
Mr. Korea BBQ is a sister company of Jin Joo Korean Grill. While we enjoyed the Chesse Deung Galbi (치즈등갈비) of Jin Joo, we have yet to try the unlimited k-bbq with 10 flavors there. So, imagine how thrilled we were to discover that Mr. Korea BBQ offers 14 flavors!
The interiors of Mr. Korea BBQ is modern, hip, colorful and creative. It has the industrial feel with grilled pipes, steel wallings and neon lights. It gives a comfortable feel that let's you dine as long as you want.
Drinks
Mr. Korea BBQ is the first unlimited korean barbecue concept we have encountered to offer an unlmited self-service juice bar.
Food
Each table is provided a set of side dishes or banchan (반찬), three dipping sauces or ssamjang (쌈장), cheese sauce dip and lettuce wrap or ssam (쌈). Yes, like its sister company Jin Joo, it also has the awesomecheese sauce and its refillable to your heart's content.
Banchan (반찬)
banchan (반찬)
Since we dined for the first time, we assumed the banchan may vary as it is the usual practice in korean restaurants. Nevertheless, we give a full thumbs up for the banchan we tried (in clockwise order):
- Cabbage Kimchi (양배추 김치)
- Gamjachae Bokkeum (감자채 볶음)
- Yangpa Jangajji (Soy Pickled onions) (양파 장아찌)
- Sigeumchi Namul (Seasoned Spinach) (시금치 나물 반찬)
- Gamja Salad (Mashed Potato Salad): (감자샐러드)
On the grill were additional complimentary dishes: Beef Bulgogi and Tteokbokki (Sticky Rice Cake) (떡볶이). The Beef Bulgogi is exactly the same as one of the flavors so we recommend that you just have this replenished from time to time. Small serving is better. Its best to remove the Tteokbokki from the grill so as not too overcook it.
Three Dipping Sauces or ssamjang (쌈장)
- This is the main sauce for grilled unmarinated meats such as the Samgyupsal (삼겹살구이) and Woogyupsal.
- This sauce goes well with the marinated grilled meats.
- This sauce brings out the flavor of grilled meatseaten on its own (without being wrapped by lettuce)
Under Mr. Korea's Rules, you can only order 2 kinds of meat for 4 full paying adults and 3 kinds of mats for 6-full paying adults at a time. We suggest that you order a variety of comabinations (i.e. rolls, unmarinated and marinated pork and beef).
Pork
♥ Pork Teriyaki Enoki Roll
Beef
♥ Dry Rub Woosamgyup
Korean Chili Pepper Woosamgyup
The Korean Chili Pepper Woosamgyup is suitable for those enjoy powdery and pepperish dishes.
Korean Hotpot Set
Unli Hot Pot Set (Add 50 php)
We don't recommend the Unli Hot Pot Set since the broth even with all the ingredients lack flavor. If you opt to avail of this option, you can try to add some cheese sauce into it for a more wholesome umami flavor.
Unlimited BBQ plus Unli Hot Pot Set (Add 50 php)
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Mr. Korea BBQ offers an enjoyable unlimited Korean BBQ experience for a reasonable price. With 14 flavors of meat and unlimited cheese dip, we guarantee that you will have a very fulfilling Korean BBQ meal.

I can't recall the last time I've been excited to try a newly opened Japanese restaurant. So I was quite intrigued when the family discovered one originating from Japan called "Washoku Musashi-Tei".
The place is usually crowded with foreign and Japanese guests. They also have function rooms for group privacy.
This is set on the table while we were waiting for our orders.
It also serves complimentary brown rice tea.
Food
Set
♥ Aburi Salmon Don with Miso Soup (430 php)
The aburi I've encountered are usually very extravagant. But, I've always believed that the best things are the simple things and this Aburi Salmon Don.
Ramen
♥ Seafood Tokujo Ramen (470 php)
New
♥ Teppan Cheese Hamburg Teishoku (430 php)
Curry
♥ Fujisan Katsu Curry (450 php)
Katsu
Fillet Katsu 3 pcs. ala carte (380 php)
Just looking at the Fillet Katsu, you can already see how perfectly fried it is right?
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Washoku Musashi-tei is a well-rounded Japanese restaurant that will surely satisfy you whatever your Japanese dish craving is. Given the food quality and portion, I find the pricing to be justified. I believe the quality is as high as prestigious and expensive hotel Japanese restaurants.

Is there more to good food than just satisfying appetites and filing up our newsfeeds with tons of food photos?
That’s probably the question that went into the mind of the founders behind Martin Place Social in Arya Plaza, BGC because Martin Place Social is not just a restaurant;

Martin Place Social is an integrated restaurant and training institute run by Ausphin International Institute as a live kitchen for the Institution’s students. Like American Bounty run by the Culinary Institute of America, Martin Social Place is the experimental training ground for Ausphin’s promising students in culinary arts and restaurant management
But serving a higher purpose is not enough to attract diners to a restaurant—after all, most of us place a lot of weight on how much we love the food and the dining experience when choosing a restaurant. Leveraging on their Australian background, the guys behind Martin Place Social created a restaurant that embodies the Modern Australian dining experience and is inspired by the eclectic cafes in Sydney and Melbourne.
You may be wondering what Modern Australian cuisine would taste like, I certainly was, and the invitation to sample some of Martin Place Social’s food was a good chance to finally know what Modern Australian cuisine is!
Drinks
The evening started off with a round of drinks—a typical Aussie custom, who knew? I had a glass of Cold Brew Negroni, others had a glass of what seemed like lemonade. ( Unfortunately, they did not have a menu for their cocktails so I can’t say for certain what the second drink was or what the prices are—sorry about that!)
Food
We were told that the fish used depended on what was available in market and changed from time to time depending on what fish was available that day. The secret sauce; however, remained a secret but gave the fish a nice burst of sweetness and sourness.

Food
Secret Fish Taco (over fried soft taco) (320 php)
Immediately following the drinks were two plates of Secret Fish Taco served two ways: fish served atop a crispy taco and salad, and fish served in a taco shell drizzled with sauce.
Secret Fish Taco (in hard taco shell) (320 php)
Mixed Wild Mushroom Bruschetta (450 php)
Next was a plate of Mixed Wild Mushroom Bruschetta—something new from their brunch menu. This was, hands-down, my favorite dish. The eggs, still a little runny, were cooked the way I liked it and the truffle flavor just paired wonderfully well with the eggs and parmesan cheese.
Chicken Katsu
Following the tasty Bruschetta were the mains—Chicken Katsu and Mountain Pork Belly Salad! I’m absolutely certain that the Chicken Katsu goes by a different name on the menu but I simply cannot find it! (sorry readers ☹). The lack of the proper dish name is quite embarrassing especially since Katsu brings to mind the dish that Yabu popularized a few years back but the katsu (chicken fillet) served here is a bit different—there’s a bit of heat mixed together in the sauce and the Asian slaw served on top lends a sourness not found in Katsu!
Mountain Pork Belly Salad (480 php)
The Mountain Pork Belly Salad is served similar to the Chicken Katsu but instead of a dish with a salad siding, this dish is a salad complemented by pork belly. The salad is made up of Asian Slaw, Pickled Carrots and everything is drizzled over by Nam Jim Thai sauce and a caramel glaze.
Last, and certainly not the least, were the dessert! We were served two desserts to close the meal—a plate of Apple Cinnamon Frenchie and Macy’s Cheesecake.
Macy's Cheesecake (280 php)
Both were good, but the Apple Cinnamon Frenchie is my favorite between the two. Sure, the Apple Cinnamon Frenchie may actually be more breakfast than dessert but anything with a healthy dollop of sugar is considered dessert in my books. The dish had unexpected hints of coconut which helped round out the sweet taste of apple and syrup.
Part restaurant and part school, Martin Place Social by Ausphin International Institute is not only a place for discerning diners to feast on tasty Australian cuisine but also a training ground for aspiring chefs, cooks, and restaurant managers to start a career culinary arts and restaurant management in Australia. MPS is a wonderful example showing that profit and passion can come together as a force for food, I mean good.
